Competing for the high-end market, domestic scientific instruments cannot "build tall buildings on the beach"

The data show that from 2012 to 2020, the industrial added value of China's instrument manufacturing industry showed a trend of increasing year by year. In 2019, the growth rate of industrial added value reached 10.5%. However, at the beginning of 2020, a sudden epidemic not only had a great impact on the whole society, but also caused great harm to the instrument manufacturing industry.

At the second China scientific instrument and Equipment Independent Innovation Summit held in Qingshanhu science and Technology City, Hangzhou, a number of experts from scientific research institutes and senior executives of leading enterprises in the instrument industry discussed how to further improve the independent innovation ability of China's scientific instruments and equipment and build a market-oriented sales mechanism with the main theme of "analysis of pain points in independent innovation research and development of China's scientific instruments and equipment and new breakthroughs in market-oriented sales mechanism" The new mode of "R & D enterprise key user management expert" cooperation mechanism is discussed.

"The market competitiveness of scientific instrument enterprises is weak, the brand effect is low, and there is no seat for domestic enterprises in the top 50 in the world; the coverage of scientific instrument products, categories, varieties, models and specifications is limited, and many high-end scientific instruments required for laboratories and manufacturing still rely on imports." Turning to the development status of scientific instruments in China, Nian Fushun, chief expert of the 41st Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group, said that in recent years, China has carried out a series of measures and achieved certain results in order to promote the independent innovation of scientific research instruments, but there is still a gap compared with the high-end technology level of foreign countries.

According to the statistical data of 2018, in the electronic measuring instrument industry, the United States is Germany technology company, with a total of 851 models of products, with the largest scale and market share in the world. Among China's largest suppliers of electronic measuring instruments, China Electronics Technology Instrument Company has a total of 275 models of products, second only to the former, but the market share of high-end instruments is very low.

"Many well-known foreign instrument companies are century old stores with strong professionalism, strong brand and high reputation. Most domestic related enterprises have been established in recent 20 years, with small scale and low brand effect. Many state-owned instrument enterprises with a long history have been eliminated in the market competition." Nian Fushun suggested that the development and application of scientific instruments have great potential in the future. Measures such as cultivating large instrument enterprises and invisible champion enterprises should be taken to realize the independent control of high-end scientific instruments.

It is not difficult to understand that scientific instruments are a multi-disciplinary system engineering, which not only needs breakthroughs in basic theories and key technologies, but also needs the support of industrial foundations such as materials, equipment, components, manufacturing process, design simulation software and so on.

"Without a strong industrial foundation, it is like building tall buildings on the beach." the participating experts stressed that the foundation of China's scientific instrument industry is weak and the industrial chain has not been formed, so more investment and long-term training are needed.

In addition, the innovation and development of scientific instruments can also play a role in improving the equipment level and production efficiency of the manufacturing industry. Li Hua, director of the science and technology platform Department of the basic research department of the Ministry of science and technology, said that the basic Department of the Ministry of science and technology is currently planning to formulate the 14th five year plan The major instrument R & D plan will promote the independent innovation and development of China's scientific instruments by strengthening the forward-looking innovation research of scientific instruments.
